TOGYOSAI - The God is moved May 17 (Sat)

Opening of the Festival.

The Inari God of the Jozan Inari Shrine, located within the precincts of Matsue Castle, is brought by ship to the Adakaya Shrine which is located in the neighbouring town of Higashi Izumo.

The gorgeous procession of ships passes under the Ohasigawa bridge taking with it the wishes of the people for a prosperous and happy year.

The Togyosai is the most spectacular event of the nine day Horanenya Festival.

The Ohashigawa river is filled with hundreds of ships, while on the riverbanks there are large crowds of onlookers.

The sounds of Horanenya resound in the May sky while the picture-like display of the 'Kaitenma' (floral patterned rowing boats) brings people back three hundred and fifty years.
